We, the people, presented, read, unanimously voted for, and passed the People’s Resolution on 30 May 2024 at Austin City Hall, advocating for an immediate and permanent cessation of the Israeli ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians in Palestine. The People’s Resolution also demands accountability from our elected City leaders who have failed to do their duty on behalf of their own constituents here in Austin, Texas.
This resolution, reflecting the unified voice of our diverse community in Austin, calls on the elected City Mayor and Council Members to take decisive action to call a halt to the ongoing violence, protect civilian lives, and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the entirety of Palestine, by calling for a ceasefire. It calls for the City of Austin to investigate and stop investments by the State of Texas in a foreign country in the form of Israeli bonds and any other type of investments that contribute to human rights violations and involvement in international crimes. By mobilizing local support and raising awareness, this People’s Resolution seeks to pressure policymakers into prioritizing justice and human rights, ensuring that the suffering of those affected by the genocide is alleviated and a foundation for lasting justice is established. The city of Austin does not exist in a silo within the global community, and this City body must act in good conscience, now.

6 November 2023 – The Austin Human Rights Commission passed a resolution urging the City Council to publicly call for a ceasefire. In a historic 7-1 vote, the Human Rights Commission of Austin, the 10th largest city in the United States, calls for a ceasefire and to combat the rising anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and anti-Arab sentiments.
We are calling on City Council Members to adopt this resolution demanding a humanitarian ceasefire!
Our hard-earned US tax dollars must not be channeled into the support and acquisition of weapons that fuel the devastating bombardment of innocent civilians in Gaza.
This resolution unequivocally advocates for the liberation of Israeli hostages and the urgent reinstatement of life-sustaining supplies to the people of Gaza.
Recent findings from The Nation (November 16, 2023) show that 73% of potential Democratic voters favor candidates supporting a cease-fire, with 46% strongly backing them. In Austin’s Travis County, a resounding 79% are more likely to support Representative Cesar for his pro-cease-fire stance, especially after a major supportive march.
If you’re wondering about the influence of your office on global matters, consider this: You might later regret not taking every possible step to prevent harm and save lives. Every additional person, elected official, or city that speaks up can make a difference!

Why Austin?
- Texas has the 8th largest economy in the WORLD. Austin is its capital.
- Austin’s share of federal tax dollars is $14 million.
- Gov. Abbott & Seat of Texas government is here and Austin city’s resolution will be noticed by them. Texas has declared itself an unwavering ally of Israel; why a state in the US that is not a country needs to have an alliance with a foreign government is unclear. Gov. Abbott has taken many specific actions to punish supporters of the Palestinian cause (anti-BDS bill), and support the Israeli occupation financially.
The Austin Human Rights Commission has issued a resolution calling for tackling Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism and calling for a Ceasefire. Listen to meeting Audio and a huge turn out for testimony here.
